Barcelona’s revamped squad, under the strategic guidance of Xavi, delivered a resounding 4-0 triumph over Getafe on Saturday, propelling them to the second spot in La Liga. The dynamic duo of Joao Felix and Raphinha, reinstated into the lineup, left their mark on the scoresheet.

The defending champions now boast 57 points from 26 games, surpassing Girona in the standings. Meanwhile, league leaders Real Madrid, with 62 points, are set to play their delayed fixture against Sevilla on Sunday. Real Madrid aims to extend their unbeaten streak to 20 matches, with the return of former player Sergio Ramos, who joined PSG in 2021.

Joao Felix and Raphinha, absent from the midweek Champions League draw against Napoli, made a significant impact upon their return. Xavi commented, “We knew which spaces to attack and opened them up on several occasions, and that’s where the goals came from. It’s a victory that gives us a little more peace of mind.”

The breakthrough came in the 20th minute when Brazilian forward Raphinha capitalized on a well-timed run, converting a deep pass into a slick shot into the bottom corner. Raphinha played a pivotal role in the second goal, assisting Joao Felix in doubling the lead with a far-post tap-in after 53 minutes.

Although Robert Lewandowski’s apparent goal was disallowed for offside just before the hour mark, Barcelona continued their dominance. Dutch midfielder Frenkie De Jong extended the lead to 3-0 with a well-struck shot from outside the box just after the hour. In added time, Fermin Lopez sealed the victory by tapping home a rebound.

The match began with a solemn minute’s silence in remembrance of the tragic fire incident at a 14-storey apartment block in Valencia, claiming the lives of 10 people. Consequently, the scheduled Liga game between Granada and Valencia was postponed.
