…. Presidential, governorship and legislative candidates receive Certificates of Return as party activates campaign structures
In a significant step towards its preparations for the 2027 general elections, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) on Monday inaugurated its National Campaign Council (NCC) in Abuja, with its presidential candidate, His Excellency Mr Peter Obi, and vice-presidential candidate, His Excellency Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, PhD, FNSE, in attendance.

The inauguration marks an important phase in the party’s preparations for the forthcoming electoral contest, bringing its leadership, candidates and key stakeholders together as it moves towards consolidating its campaign organisation and coordinating its activities ahead of the polls.

At the ceremony, Certificates of Return were presented to the party’s presidential and vice-presidential candidates, governorship candidates, senatorial candidates, and candidates for the House of Representatives, formally recognising their respective candidacies within the party’s electoral framework.

The event was attended by party leaders, members of the National Working Committee (NWC), candidates and other stakeholders, underscoring the importance of collective coordination and institutional preparation as the NDC positions itself for the 2027 elections.

The presence of Obi and Kwankwaso at the inauguration also placed the party’s two principal candidates at the centre of its emerging campaign structure, providing a focal point for its political mobilisation and engagement with Nigerians.

Beyond the symbolism of the ceremony, the inauguration presents the NDC with an opportunity to translate its political aspirations into a coordinated national campaign, strengthen engagement across constituencies and communicate a clear policy direction to the electorate. As the 2027 elections approach, the party’s organisational capacity, the coherence of its message and its ability to connect its proposed agenda with the everyday concerns of Nigerians will be important elements of its electoral engagement.

The presentation of Certificates of Return to candidates across the presidential, governorship and legislative levels further highlights the party’s preparations across the different tiers of elective office. It also places a premium on collaboration among its candidates and campaign structures in communicating the party’s priorities and engaging voters throughout the country.

For the NDC, the road to 2027 will require more than the visibility of its leading figures. It will demand sustained grassroots engagement, effective coordination among party organs, credible policy propositions and a campaign message capable of addressing the country’s pressing governance, economic and social challenges.

The inauguration of the National Campaign Council therefore represents an organisational milestone in the party’s preparations for the next electoral cycle. The ultimate test will be how effectively the council translates its mandate into disciplined campaign coordination, substantive engagement with the electorate and a coherent national political proposition.
