EMELAM UDO, UMUAHIA.

In her bid to assist the indigents and impact positively on their lives, a family in Amizi Oloko, Ikwuano Local Government Area of Abia state has formally inaugurated a Non- Governmental Organization (NGO) known as Ikwumma Family Foundation.

According to the Chairman of the Organization, Dr. Philip Odoemena, the outfit has been established in memory of their late grandmother, Ikwumma who showered care and love on their parents and even her grandchildren and great grandchildren when she was alive.

He disclosed that their grandmother was generous, virtuous, industrious and above all mother to many children.

Odoemena  it disclosed that it was in order to continue with the good works of their grandma that the entire family resolved to establish the Foundation in her memory.

He said the aims and objectives of the Foundation the family has established; were among others to assist the indigent persons in the society, award scholarships to person to enable

go to school, empower petty traders by giving them cash grants to enable start their own businesses and execute projects that would impact on the lives of the people.

The chairman of the Organization further said that projects that would impact on the people such as Health facilities, school blocks and education materials would be carried out by the Foundation.

He disclosed that the NGO in Amizi, Oloko in Ikwuano Local Government Area of Abia state was established one year ago and the entire members of mama Ikwumma family at home and in diaspora decided to launch it formally at home.

He further said that the foundation conducts her meeting every two months through zoom so that all would participate and that its constitution makes it compulsory to meet together every two years.

“We will meet again in 2023. Some of us living in Germany, America, Japan, Canada, Switzerland and Romania will come home” said the Chairman.

Another grandson of Mama Ikwumma, and the Vice chairman of the family, Engr. Nkem Osuwa said in synergy with the Chairman and entire Executives of the Foundation, they would work assiduously to sustain the existence of the newly delivered Foundation.

He promised to reach out to other descendants of Mama Ikwumma to join the foundation.

He equally encouraged members to always pay their dues and levy in order to take the Foundation to a greater height.

Osuwa disclosed that the Foundation would assist members and non-members who have financial problems.

Two surviving daughter of Mama Ikwumma, Nneoma Elizabeth Osuwa, aged about 80 years and Mercy Eleogu, aged 75 respectively in their separate speeches expressed happiness for being alive to witness the remembrance  and post humors honour by her grandchildren and great grandchildren  on their late Mama who left this world some decades ago.
