Abia Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu says his government is on top of the security situation in the State adding that the security situation has made it possible for the State to be hosting many conferences.
The Governor stated this while declaring open the 46th/11th Biennial Conference of the Methodist Church Nigeria, held at the Wesley Cathedral of Methodist Church Nigeria, 38/46 Park Road, Aba, with the theme “Strive for Peace & Holiness”
According to him, his administration has not achieved all that it sets out to achieve and expressed confidence that in the days ahead the government would meet the set goals.
Ikpeazu called on Christians to continue to strive for peace and Holiness. The Governor, who launched the Prelate’s address also announced a donation of bus to the women’s fellowship of the church.
In his address, the Prelate, Methodist Church Nigeria, Most Rev. Kalu Uche condemned the lack of adequate security in the country, appointment of security chiefs from one side of the country and called for total overhaul of the security chiefs.
Most Rev. Uche said that Methodist Church Nigeria supports restructuring of Nigeria and creation of State Police and encouraged Methodist members to offer themselves for elective positions as well as urged every eligible citizen to obtain PVC to enable him vote in 2019.
He condemned the mindless killings of innocent Nigerians in all parts of the country and commiserated with the saints over the killings, including the members of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) who were killed by the military last year.
The man of God called on conference to go back to the old time religion, pray fervently for the growth of the church as well as ensure that the church grows through individual families.
He commended the the Governor for his efforts in fixing Abia, particularly, Aba and informed that the theme of the conference was tailored to draw people close to God.
