A fuel tanker exploded on Saturday morning at the Ibafo/Aseese axis of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, causing significant disruption. The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency reported that no lives were lost in the incident.

Emergency responders, including personnel from the Fire Rescue Services and Federal Road Safety Corps, were on the scene working to extinguish the fire, which was successfully contained around 8:30 a.m.

Traffic in the area is gradually resuming normal flow, with congestion now easing towards the Wawa/Arepo axis of the expressway. TRACE Spokesperson Babatunde Akinbiyi confirmed the incident occurred around 7:00 a.m. and provided updates on the situation.

“Fire update at Ibafo. As of 0830 hrs., the fire has finally been put to rest. Traffic is gradually moving. Operatives are on the ground to ease the traffic. I will provide additional updates later,” Akinbiyi stated.

Emergency operatives remain on the ground to assist in managing the traffic flow and ensuring safety.
