Months ago two elephants suspected to have come from the neighboring Niger republic and Benin strayed into Kebbi through Zaria kalala and tuga in Bagudu local government area of Kebbi state,the wild animals who still roams the towns of kalala and tuga broke away from their caravan and entered kebbi,since then the two animals has been under the care of the state government in terms of feeding and security, the state also ensured they didn’t hurt any one since they strayed into the state.
Arising from the meeting held between the state government and the delegates from the conservator from the national parks of Nigeria, the executive governor of kebbi state his excellency Senator Atiku Bagudu told Journalists that,the State is ready to establish Zoo or animals park to properly conserve the wild animals as the nation struggles to ensure such species hasn’t gone into extinction, he added that elephants are friendly animals as the State has not received any report of any attack to human beings by the animals,”we can assure you that Kebbi State is home to those elephants and we working towards establishing a befitting abode for them the governor disclosed.
Recalled that when the elephants entered Kebbi officials of the ministry for environment quickly mobilised to the scene for on the spot assessment of the situation, the former commissioner for environment Hassan Umar Kalgo then said Kebbi receives the animals with open hands and mind.
