A non governmental organization called mental and oral health development organization under the leadership of Linda Ekele held one day programm at the school for persons with special needs in Birnin kebbi.
The theme of the programme was suicidal thoughts and effects of discrimination against persons with disabilities in the society,according to her the intent of the programme is to wash away the ill thinking of the physically challenged persons who usually see themselves as inferior citizens due their natural inability to function like normal human beings.
She added that such ill thoughts caused by discrimination they get from some people may force them to harbour bad intentions which may include compteplating suicide or engage in drug addiction to trade off the stigma.
At the occasion students of the school presented papers on the need for them to see ability in their disabilities for them to suitability fits in the society of the able by displaying their natural talents which the society itself will benefit.
Linda urged members of the public to mingle with the physically challenged in order to give them the desired sense of belonging,she also appealed to Kebbi government to add to what its doing to the people with special needs.
The programme was attended by the principal of the school,WHO official and a host of others.
