Leadership problem over which structure the National body of the Social Democratic Party recognized in Abia nearly rocked the party but for the timely amicable settlement in a general held by the party hierarchy in the state at the party secretariat Nsukka Street Umuahia weekend.
Recall that the structure under the control of Hon. Chidi Nwosu had on Thursday last week addressed Journalists after the Party’s public meeting with Local Government Chairmen of the seventeen Local government areas at the Party’s secretariat where he introduced himself as the Chairman steering g Committee.
However, a week after Nwosu’s meeting and claim, another meeting of the Party led by Chief Irokansi was held last weekend at the Party Secretariat with local government chapter chairmen where he also he claimed to be the State acting chairman of the Party.
The entire drama that played out during the meeting summoned by Irokansi brought out anxiety when Hon Nwosu was observed sitting outside the meeting venue when he was invited by Irokansi to come over to the High table.
However after welcoming Nwosu, chief Irokansi began to voice out his grievances against his fellow Party man, Nwosu , expressed his belief that the Party has come to stay in the State while adding that what has played is normal in politics even as he asked the Major Stakeholders of the Party to work in partnership with the State chapter and avoid acts capable of brewing crises in the Party.
Irokansi further warned stakeholders of the Party in the State against friction, bickering and rumour mongering while boosted that the Party remains the only force that would eject the People’s Democratic Party led government from the government house come 2019.
Reacting on Irokansi’s claims, Nwosu reminded his fellow Party members that position any member may be holding will not win election for the Party in 2019 rather Unity of Purpose and focus in order to overcome enormous challenges facing Party from the point of securing an office accommodation, a move which he claimed the State government prevented them from securing.
Nwosu who accepted the idea made by Irokansi of inviting the Major Stakeholders of the Party at the National Level from the State maintained that there is no cause for alarm as the Party is intact.
Speaking to our reporter, a stalwart of the Party in the State, Dr. Ikechukwu Mgborogwu commended the two Parties for amicably settling their differences, a situation if not resolved would have generated crises in the Party.
