Gov. Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State has in the first hundred days in office as governor of the state put up various developmental projects. Our correspondent, Gbolahan Salman shares some of his transformation programme in the state

Mr Ibrahim Al-Hassan, visited Sokoto State for the first time in over a year and nearly and upon entering the metropolis from the Sultan Abubakar International Airport, he was taken aback from the physical transformation happening in the state especially the metropolis.

From the inner roads to the architectural designed by the current administration to put the state at same level with it’s peers across the country all within 100 days of Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto administration in the state.

The first 100 days in office of the governor of Sokoto State, Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto, has been quite a successful one with different prominent Nigerians storming the state to commissioned projects executed within the periods.

Upon assumption of office, the governor directed state government officials to clear all the debries scattered across the metropolis which hitherto was in a pitiable state to what it is today following the intervention of the governor.

Within his first 100 days in office, the governor has touch if not every sector but most of the sectors as promised during his gubernatorial campaign in the state.

The governor, within his first 100 days in office commissioned various developmental projects and interventions to address the current situation of the country in the state.

Some of his achievements in office within 100 days includes, provisions of about 140 different model of vehicles for both security and transport system.

The vehicles unveiled for distribution in the state includes 50 pieces 18- seater Toyota Hiace, 20 pieces of 2022 model Toyota Camry, 40 pieces of 2022 model of Toyota Hilux as well as about 30 pieces of Toyota buffalo meant for security purposes.

The 50 pieces of Toyota Hiace according to the spokesman of the governor, Abubakar Bawa, is to add to the fleet of vehicles at the state transport corporation for inter state traveling which he said has not been added or changed in the last eight years.

Bawa also explained that the 40 pieces of 2022 Toyota Hilux will be given to the Divisional Police Officers across the state to assist them in the discharge of their duties in and across the state.

“The 22 Toyota Camry saloon car will serve as means of transportation especially for women in the state at reduced rates to cushion the effects of subsidy removal on petroleum motor spirits.

“The governor in his efforts to ensure there is improved security in the state which is one major point of his nine point agenda further procured the Toyota Buffalo for onward transmission to the security agencies in the state which includes Nigerian Army, Department of State Security Service, Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, Nigerian Immigration Service, Nigerian Custom Service among others”

The governor in addition to the procurement of these vehicles, also purchased 57,000 bags of 50kg rice,

Briefing newsmen at the council chamber shortly after the inaugural state executive council meeting in the state, the state Commissioner for religious affairs, Sheikh Dr Jabir Maihula, said the state governor, Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto, has approved the purchase of items to be distributed as palliatives to the people of the state.

According to the Commissioner, “the state executive council members in it’s inaugural meeting  approved the purchase of 57,000 bags of 50kg rice at the cost of 2.508,000,000 Billion naira

“The council also approved the purchase of another 26,000 bags of 100kg millets at the cost of 1.430,000,000 Billion naira”

He said the said items also includes another 44,000 bags of maize which will be purchased by the state government in conjunction with the federal government.

Speaking in his remarks while flagging off the items at the mainbowl of Gingiya memorial stadium in the state metropolis, the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Kashim Shettima described the initiative of the Sokoto State government as a welcome development aimed at improving the livelihood of the citizens of the state.

Speaking on the procurement of vehicles for the security agents in the state, Shettima said, “there can never be development without peace and your commitment to assist the security agents will encourage them to do more.

“The provisions of palliatives to cushion the effects of subsidy removal on our people especially the less privileges is another milestone in the state.

‘ I want  to assure the people of the state that the promise made by Mr President during his campaign here on making life easier for the citizens and residents of the state.

“The government is coming up with a big plan that will relief the our people going forward”

Shettima also before inaugurating the items, had earlier perform the laying down of foundation of 500 housing estate to be constructed by the governor in Kalambaina area of Wamakko local government area of the state.

The housing estate is one of the numerous projects line up to celebrate the 100 days in office of the Governor Ahmed Aliyu administration in the state.

He said the previous office held by the governor under the administration of Aliyu  Wamakko which includes commissioner for works, health and one time Deputy Governor has really help him in the discharge of his current duties as the governor.

While commending the former governor and the leader of the All Progressive Congress in the state, Aliyu Wamakko, for developing such a candidate as governor of the state, the vice president revealed that the country is currently having a deficit of about 28 million as st today.

He described the former governor as not just a leader of the state but that of the entire North as well as Nigeria as a whole.

He commend the governor for embarking on numerous projects with human face including the completion of projects inherited from the previous administration of Aminu Waziri Tambuwal which includes overhead bridge.

He however before departing the state also commissioned the new flyover bridge at Rijiya Dorowa, Diplomat area inherited from the previous administration and completed by the administration of Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto.

Sunday Tribune gathered that the earlier before the arrival of the vice President in the State, the national chairman of the APC, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, was also in the state to commission some of the projects provided by the governor for the benefits of the state.

The chairman who upon arrival in the state witnessed the distribution of palliatives to 2022 flood victims in the state.

Ganduje who was the immediate past Governor of Kano State, described the Governor Ahmed Aliyu as the best performing governor in the first 100 days of his tenure.

” I have not been everywhere but from what I gathered before i arrived here and from what I have seen so far in the state, I can bodly described you as the best performing governor for now.

“I believe if you continue like this for the next four years, you will not need to campaign for second term, we would all beg you to go four second term”

Also commending the governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma, who was also in the state to commission some important roads in the metropolis described the governor as a pan Nigeria

Uzodinma who is the chairman of Progressive governor’s in the country became the third dignitary visiting the state for inauguration of projects.

The projects, which included the Bungudu, Kamba and Emir Yahaya link roads in the state metropolis, signified a significant step forward for the state’s infrastructure.

Speaking in his address while commissioning the popular Sahara road, Uzodinma commend governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto for embarking on several people oriented projects within 100 days of his administration.

He described him as a politician who believes in the unity of the country. “This governor is a Pan-Nigeria who believes in politics of national integration, national cohesion and believes in politics of inclusivity.

“My interactions with my Ibo brothers here confirmed that you promised to deliver this road project if voted into power despite the fact the area is dominated by people from the South East.

“When you invited me to come and commission project, I said I want to be identified with progress and success. I also heard that apart from this road, water now flows in the state, streetlights everywhere.

“I congratulates the people of Sokoto for them to have seen a vision of a good leader in voting for a governor that will work for their progress” he added..

 

Also commending efforts of the governor in the state is the Jigawa state Governor Umar Na Madi, who was in the state as a special guest for the commissioning of road projects, he described Governor Aliyu as dedicated and a true democrat who works consciously to achieve desired objectives.

Namadi also applauded the governor for his humbleness and commitment to delivering a dividend of democracy to his people.

According to Namadi, while commissioning the intra-city road projects at Gawon Nama area, he said the governor has done so well as he gives premium attention to the welfare and wellbeing of Sokoto people.

He commended the governor for executing the people-oriented project in the state, noting that with the provision of a good road network and provision of water in rural and urban  Communities, the governor has solved the problem of waterborne disease.

Commissioning Kware, Zagga, Jaredi, and Isa Roads within the state capital, the Jigawa State governor described the project as a people-oriented project, which will ease traffic congestion and improve the economic activities of the state.

“It isn’t  surprised me as Governor Aliyu is honest, prudent and up to the task,”  pointing out that, what he saw in the state “is a clear testimony of Governor’s excellent leadership qualities.”

He urged the people of the state to continue to cooperate with the governor in order to deliver more people oriented projects to the nooks and crannies of the state.

Meanwhile, the governor in 100 days also commissioned solar powered 50 borehole in some part of the state to ease the problems of water among the citizens, as well as renovation and construction of 45 blocks of classrooms in the state.

He also distributed relief materials to victims of 2022 flood disaster in the state to ease their burden, this is apart from the intervention provided through collaboration of NG-cares in the provision of farm inputs to about 1,180 farmers in the state with the state donating a counterpart funding of 2.4 Billion Naira.

This is in addition to the distribution of fertilizers and other farm inputs by the governor as part of his efforts to cushion effects of subsidy removal on the people of Sokoto State.

Meanwhile, as part of two weeks long celebration activities of Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto administration in the state, two other road projects were flagged off two senatorial district in the state.

The governor awarded contract for the construction of 11.6km Gawo, Darhela, Sifawa road in Bodinga local government area of the state.

Flagging off the construction work which is expected to link Bodinga town, the headquarters of Bodinga local government with surrounding communities, former governor of the state and one time Minister, Alhaji Yahaya Abdulkarim lauded Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto for the giant strides towards improving and impacting the lives of people of the state.

Abdulkarim commended the State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu for impacting positively on the lives of the citizens of the state since when he was sworn in as the as executive Governor in may 2023.

” I am not amazed with the remarkable steps of the governor considering the track record and legacies of his mentor and father , former governor Aliyu  Wamakko who through out his 8 years as governor brought tremendous but positive change in the state”

Commenting on the performance of the governor in the first 100 days of his administration, a resident of the state, Stanley Uche, commends the governor for his developmental strides within 100 days of his administration.

Uche, who sells motorcycles spare parts in the state at Sahara area, one of the beneficiaries community in the metropolis described the Sahara road project as done by the governor as dream come true especially for the people of Sahara community.

He said, “for the non indigenes especially we Ibo community in the state, it was like a dream come true for us to see our road tared like this.

“No government in the history of the state has  ever remember us here for any developmental projects until the coming of this administration.

“We are very grateful to the governor who made a promise during campaign and fulfilled it within the first hundred days in office “
