The October 26th local governments elections was relatively peaceful especially in Birnin kebbi the state capital, but there were reports of unrest in some local governments like Argungu, Sakaba and Zuru local governments areas of kebbi state.
The allegations were made by the state chairman of the opposition peoples democratic party (PDP) Mallam Haruna Saidu at the party’s headquarters where he accused the ruling APC of using security personnel and thugs to disrupt PDP strongholds, he alleged that at fircin ward in koko/besse local government members of the APC came with already thump printed ballot papers which he said they had access to the ballot papers and boxes before the election, but their members resisted ,therefore the boxes were taken away and proper election began.
The party chief also alleged that election didn’t hold in masama ward,no election in about five wards in gwandu local government,in Sakaba too there was no election in some wards,Haruna explained that,the party is aware of the sharp practices perpetrated by the ruling APC in the state.
He urged the state electoral umpire to cancel result that are being contested and he called them to maintain neutrality as the party will not hesitate to follow available means to get what belongs to them,while calling on his members across the state to remain calm and law abiding he charged them to protect their votes.
However efforts to get the state public relations officer Sani dododo of the ruling APC to get his own side of the story were not successful as his phone wasn’t going through and was not on seat when visited.
