Former Deputy National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Olabode George, has raised concerns over the political crisis in Rivers State, warning that it could escalate into a national catastrophe.

George urged elders and stakeholders of the PDP to intervene in the crisis, emphasizing the need to prevent further escalation. He also cautioned President Bola Tinubu against disregarding the threat by some lawmakers in the Rivers State House of Assembly to impeach Governor Siminalayi Fubara, asserting that the state belongs to the PDP.

Citing constitutional provisions, George noted that lawmakers who defected from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC) had automatically forfeited their seats, invalidating any impeachment proceedings they may initiate against the governor.

He stressed the importance of collective action to maintain peace and stability, urging all parties involved to prioritize the nation’s interests over individual agendas.

George urged members of the PDP’s Board of Trustees to act swiftly in resolving the crisis and cautioned against issuing provocative statements that could exacerbate tensions in Rivers State.

He concluded by emphasizing the need to prevent any actions that could undermine Nigeria’s democracy, calling for immediate measures to address the crisis and restore peace.
