The Kogi State Governorship Elections Petition Tribunal, convening in Abuja on Monday, upheld the election of Usman Ododo from the All Progressives Congress as the governor of the state.

The three-member panel of justices, led by Justice Ado Birnin-Kudu, dismissed the petition filed by Murtala Ajaka of the Social Democratic Party. The tribunal ruled that Ajaka failed to substantiate his claims with the necessary evidence as required by law.

The tribunal emphasized that, according to Section 135 of the Electoral Act, Ajaka did not demonstrate that the alleged irregularities were significant enough to impact the overall election results.

In a unanimous decision, the tribunal concluded that Ajaka did not provide sufficient credible evidence in accordance with relevant legal standards to justify his petition’s success. The court reiterated that the petitioner must demonstrate substantial inconsistencies and show that these irregularities could have affected the election’s outcome.
