Chaos unfolded at the Labour Party (LP) Secretariat as thugs, allegedly loyal to the National Chairman of the Labour Party, Julius Abure, clashed with anti-Abure protesters. The protesters, reportedly from the Edo State chapter of the party, had gathered at the secretariat to demand Abure’s removal.

The confrontation began when the anti-Abure protesters arrived in several vehicles, brandishing placards and chanting solidarity songs. Shortly after some protesters exited their vehicles, they were attacked by suspected thugs armed with sticks and other objects, forcing the drivers to flee.

As the violence escalated, thugs began hurling stones into the nearby Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Secretariat, targeting journalists who were covering the incident. The situation prompted the intervention of armed police officers and operatives from the Department of State Security (DSS), who managed to contain the fracas and prevent further escalation.

Currently, a police vehicle is stationed between the opposing factions to maintain order and ensure the safety of all parties involved
