The Sokoto State Urban and Regional Planning Board has clarified reasons for the removal of political billboards and posters of political parties across the metropolis.
The special adviser to Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto State on Sokoto State Urban and Regional Planning Board,.   Sidi Aliyu Lamido, while addressing newsmen in his office on Monday said the exercise was embarked upon to sanitize the society against indiscriminate pasting of posters in the state.
The SA said the exercise which was carried out by alongside security agencies representatives of some of the political parties in the state was never to witch-hunt anyone irrespective of their political parties affiliations.
He said the exercise was aftermath of meeting with representatives of all political parties in the state alongside traditional rulers on how to tackle irregular pasting of billboards and posters.
Lamido however said the exercise which is part of the routine exercise of the board was not meant to target any political parties as every posters and roadside billboards without approval were removed accordingly.
“We had already agreed unanimously with the leaders of political and traditional rulers that the pasting of posters and erecting of billboards is becoming rampant in the state where posters is even pasted in the mosque, market among many others.
“We agreed with them and that is why the operation was successful as we move alongside political parties and security agencies.
“The objective was to control all the illegal posters and billboards especially within the state capital” he explained.
He however advised the general public especially those who intends to past posters to follow due process.
