Today in Abuja, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) unveil Mr. Finidi George as the new Head Coach of the Senior Men National Team, Super Eagles, in a formal unveiling ceremony. Among the dignitaries expected at the event are the Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Enoh, the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Mrs. Tinuke Watti, NFF President Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, and General Secretary Dr. Mohammed Sanusi.

George’s decision to return to Nigeria from a coaching opportunity in Spain to lead Enyimba FC, a two-time CAF Champions League winner, has garnered attention. His successful tenure with Enyimba FC, culminating in the team’s strong performance in the Nigeria elite division, highlights his coaching prowess.

Having served as assistant to Portuguese José Peseiro, George played a crucial role in the Super Eagles’ qualification for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations and their impressive performance in the tournament. With his extensive experience as a player, winning 62 caps for Nigeria and participating in FIFA World Cup finals, George brings a wealth of knowledge to his new role.

His immediate challenge involves securing victories in the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches against South Africa and Benin Republic. George’s appointment marks an exciting chapter for Nigerian football, as fans eagerly anticipate his contributions to the Super Eagles’ success on the international stage.
