The clean, green, liveable and Sustainable Environment vision by the Soludo Led administration has taken a higher dimension to suit year 2024 theme termed “Changing Gear”
Mr Commissioner of Environment Engr. Dr. Felix Odimegwu with his team from the Ministry of Environment which comprises of the Perm. Sec Barr Ngozi Iwuno, Appointees of the governor on Environment, Dirs. of Various departments, E.H.P. C Mrs Oluchi Nwankwu, Ecology Mr Joe Edochie, E.H.Os amongst others were on ground for the sensitization brief
Dr Odimegwu who spoke to the Udoka estate residents, Kwata Abbatoir chairman, Landlords and hotel owners at the meeting hinted that the essence of the gathering is to intimate each and everyone of the dangers associated with indiscrimate disposal of waste, improper channeling of waste water, clogged drainages, refuse burning and other environmental nuisance
“I urge you all to clear drainage nearest to you as this will make flow of water seamless in rainy season. Structures erected on drainages should be removed with immediate effect. Each compound is mandated to build a catchment pit for easy drain of run-off water and also to maintain proper waste disposal et.c
Contributing, The Perm Sec Barr Ngozi Iwuno stated that inspection will follow suit to check drainages and canals that needs to be desilted as this will allow free flow of water
In their various speeches, the Dir. of Environmental Health and Ecology department made emphasis on the need for the landlords and tenants to maintain a clean and healthy environment by working in synergy to make sure the drainages, debris and waste are cleared at intervals
Reacting, An elated resident by name Mr Ugochukwu Emmanuel and Manager of Don ritz Hotel Engr Ezekwelu thanked the entire team for coming through for them while pledging to always do the needful to make the environment more habitable
In conclusion, Mr Commissioner stated that all these effort is to mitigate flooding which leads to erosion, he encouraged everyone to be a participator and not a spectator as the sustainability of the environment is not solely the business of the government but for every onye Anambra
Desilting of clogged canal/drainages will start immediately as we conclude inspection ” he added
