For allegedly inserting an iron rod in the private part of a victim he reportedly raped, one Gboyega Ogunlola is to remain in the custody of the prison walls for now on the orders of an Ado Ekiti Chief Magistrate’s Court.

The court, had on Friday slammed the order on the 30-year-old man, who was said to have committed the offence against a 27-year-old lady, who he was said to have forcefully had sex with, in the case of rape and attempted murder.

The victim, had told the police that the Ogulola conveyed her in his car when she was going to Anambra State to check on her children, but that she later found herself in his room where he allegedly raped her and inserted iron rod in her private parts, which landed her in the hospital.

Police prosecutor, Inspector Olubu Apata, said the victim, had claimed that the accused also stole her phone and a sum of N260,000 meant for her children’s school fees, adding that the defendant was reasonably suspected to have committed the offences of rape, attempted murder and stealing from a 27-year-old woman in Iworoko Ekiti on September 5, 2021.

“The offences run contrary to and punishable under sections 358, 320 and 390 of Criminal Code, Cap C16 Laws of Ekiti state, 2012,” he said, urging the court to remand the defendant in custody to enable him to forward the duplicate case file to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions for legal advice.

Justice Saka Afunso, Chief Magistrate, while granting the prosecutor’s request, ordered that the defendant be remanded in a correctional centre in Ado Ekiti, pending legal advice and adjourned till October 5, 2021 for mention.
