As Abia State celebrates its 27th anniversary, the State Advisory Council has advocated for Charter of Equity to prevail in order to guarantee the existing peace recorded in the State during period under review.

It urged the State House of assembly to hasten up with the bill which according to it, stabilization of peace recorded in the State from

1991 till date was as result of implementation of Charter of Equity

adopted by the Founding Fathers.

Chairman of the Council, Eze Ogo Anagha Ezikpe, OFR,  who disclosed

this in a media press briefing, Thursday, at the government house  as

part of activities marking the  27 years of the creation of the State

maintained that though the Charter of Equity has been adhered to by

the political class within the period of  transition from1999- 2015.

At the briefing he was flanked among other members  Lady Victoria

Aguiyi Ironsi, wife of late General J.T. Aguiyi Ironsi  Prof Eze S

Nwankwo, 1st Deputy Chairman, Barr. Chikezie Wachukwu, 2nd deputy

Chairman, Eze John Akaniro, Alhaji Suleiman Ukandu, and the Permanent Secretary Political at the Office of the SSG, Sir Linus Ogbuokiri who serve as the Council Secretary .

He disclosed that the political adhered to the document with started

from Abia North under Dr Orji Uzor Kalu, then to Abia Central under

Senator Theodore Orji and now the incumbent governor Dr Okezie Ikpeazu from Abia South Senatorial Zone.

On why the document is yet to be domesticated in the state through a

law to be made by the State House of Assembly, the Elder statesman

disclosed that he had written several letters for the document to be

domesticated. It is not yet a law and not part of the law.

Giving more insight on the level of development after creation, he

said, “Since  we got  the State, we have been trying to develop ,

there are certain categories of development, we still believe that

with time the State will develop to the desired level of development.

Ezeikpe said his Council has organized 25 public outings which have

been generally accepted as very successful “notwithstanding the

Challenges of 2015 election petitions which culminated in the Supreme

Court decision affirming the election of the incumbent Governor, Dr

Okezie Ikpeazu as the truly and lawfully elected governor of the

State.

He expressed the Council’s happiness that there is now calm and peace

in the State , “This has enabled the governor to pursue geometrically

the purpose and novel in infrastructural development noticeable in all

the three Senatorial Districts today”

The State Advisory Council Chairman noted that one hundred and forty

awards of various categories have been made since the creation of the

State .
