The North East Regional Initiative (NERI) in collaboration with Yobe state ministry of Women Affairs and social development have organized a International Women’s day, in Gaidam community of Yobe state after 10 years of insurgency.
Over 500 women in Gaidam community participated in the women solidarity March where they begun the street walk from the local government Secretariat down to the palace of the Emir of Gazargamu in Gaidam community.
Speaking at the Emir palace, the Programme Manager, North East Regional Initiative (NERI) Bukar Kurama, said United Nation has dedicated March 8, of every year for women to celebrate their victory and provide an opportunity for women across the world to come together and discuss issues of progress and challenges and dine their common ground.
Kurama, said “NERI being a developmental organization joined the women to celebrate the day saying this is the first time in Gaidam since it’s existence international women’s day celebration was being celebrated.
He called on the women of Gaidam community to keep playing the vital role of ensuring peace is restored in the community being the community lingering with insurgents crisis, believe that women have better role to play in ensuring peace and security.
Also speaking the Emir of Gazargamu represented by the District Head, of Borkoma Zanna Mahammad Nur pledged to support them saying without women no one would have come in to this world
Different cultural activities were conducted such as drama by students, wisdom talk, cultural performance among others.
