Renowned political economist Prof. Pat Utomi has revealed plans to form a mega political party ahead of the 2027 general elections, aiming to disrupt the existing political order and provide impactful leadership for Nigeria’s redemption.

Utomi, who recently returned to Nigeria from the U.S., expressed his conviction that neither the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) nor any of the opposition parties could redeem the country, citing their failure to add value to nation-building.

According to Utomi, the current political parties in Nigeria are undemocratic and self-serving, leading to a dire need for a new political order. He emphasized the importance of citizen-driven values such as integrity, work ethics, and respect for the dignity of people in repositioning the country.

In his pursuit of the mega party, Utomi plans to convene meetings in Lagos and Abuja, aiming to bring together two cohorts of politicians: the “mea culpa” cohort, consisting of remorseful politicians who acknowledge past failures, and the “new value” cohort, comprising individuals committed to transformative leadership.

Utomi’s initiative builds on earlier conversations with leaders of opposition parties, including Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Rabiu Kwankwaso, with the goal of unifying opposition forces against the APC.

As Nigeria grapples with political challenges, Utomi’s efforts signify a push for a new political narrative focused on citizen-centric values and a break from entrenched interests.
